Bathroom Floor Tiling Project – Custom Bathtub Tiled Skirt

Measuring and Marking Flange Cut in Tile

In yesterday's article we wrote and showed in the pictures how Bennett temporarily placed some of the floor tiles from the walls near the toilet flange in the ground. The purpose of this was to sketch with a pencil the round cut that he would need to make into the floor tiles from SnapStone which would be placed on either side of the flange. Below is another picture of Bennett in action, if you will, with this task. So, here we are with the floor ready for tiling; well … [Read more...]

Bathtub Faucet Spout Replaced

Bathtub Spout Replacement

Yesterday we showed how easy, surprisingly easy, to remove the spout for our bathtub which had the diverter jammed. Today, we finish the job and attempt to install the replacement spout. I returned from one of the several plumbing supply stores in our area with the replacement. It was very similar in design to the one which lasted less than 3 years. Can you tell which one is the replacement spout? It is the one on the left in the picture below. You can see how the screw inside the spout is … [Read more...]

Caulking Bathroom Door Frame Completed

Door Frame With Caulking 1

Yesterday, we wrote about the absence of caulking between the door frame and wall of our shared bathroom, leaving the up to 1/4 inch gap exposed and the entire job looking unfinished. For comparison purposes, here is a picture from yesterday along part of the frame showing the gap which should have been finished with caulking. Now, look at the difference once the caulking is applied. It is not  hard task or one which takes more than a few minutes. Just make sure you have … [Read more...]

Door Frame Without Caulking 1

When we purchased our current house more than 2 years ago, it underwent a massive renovation in every, yes every, room in the home ... and outside as well. Heck, that is what got us to start writing about home renovation tips, home maintenance tips and home energy conservation tips for more than two years now. As part of this major home renovation, we replaced all of the interior doors, including the one to the public or shared bathroom. However, the contractor did not complete the job, … [Read more...]

Moen Mirrorscapes Installed 01

Yesterday we wrote about two bathrooms in my friend Harvey's place which he was renovating, both of which contained mirrors that did not have a border. The hope was that the look of the mirrors and of the entire bathroom would be enhanced by the Mirrorscapes product from Moen. You can obtain Moen products at The Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards and other retail locations. Here are pictures of the mirrors in each of the two bathrooms so you can compare to the finished effort: So, how … [Read more...]

Moen Mirrorscapes Review

Borderless Bathroom 1 Mirror 002

Towards the latter part of last year, DailyHomeRenoTips.com was asked if we wanted to review some products by Moen, the kitchen and bathroom people. Lately, we have become to be approached frequently to try different products. We accept those which we feel are within our area of focus, being home renovation tips or energy conservation tips, and which provide a household with value. As we had renovated all our bathrooms within the past two years, we found that we did not need any products. … [Read more...]

Repairing Bathroom Double Towel Rack – 4

Relocated Double Bath Towel Rack

Yesterday we wrote about the re-installation of the double bath towel rack to its new position in our en suite bathroom. Of course, while the re-installation might be done, you still need to deal with the holes in the wall left from the prior wall plugs of the initial installation. Today we complete this short series on one of the many home maintenance tips which are easy to do. It took me three layers of drywall patch, each applied only once the prior drywall patch had completely … [Read more...]

Repairing Bathroom Double Towel Rack – 3

Bathroom Towel Rack End with Allen Key

Yesterday we showed you the installation of the anchors for the ends of our double towel rack in our en suite bathroom. Today, we complete the job. Now, for this double bath towel rack model, the ends are secured to the metal anchoring hardware by way of a tiny screw in the bottom of the towel rack end which is screwed through the use of a small Allen Key. You need to make sure that the towel rack end is flush against the wall, otherwise the screw will miss the metal anchor located … [Read more...]

Repairing Bathroom Double Towel Rack – 1

Bathroom Towel Rack Repair\Bathroom Towel Rack Repair 1

Today we write about one of the many home maintenance tips which are easy to do. Most bungalows, just like the one we call home, are short on space because any living space which is not in the basement is all on one floor. So, in our master bedroom's en-suite bathroom we had installed a double towel rack by the contractors as part of creating the en suite in the first place. Planning. A double towel rack holds two towels at once; it will need to hold double the weight of a regular … [Read more...]

Finishing Bathroom With Caulking – 2

DAP 30 Kitchen and Bathroom Caulking

Yesterday, we wrote about two areas of our daughter's bathroom which were not properly finished with caulking. Here is a before picture for one of the areas just to remind you. The product we used was this one from DAP, their 3.0 Kitchen and Bathroom caulking. Here is what the area on the left now looks like after having applied the caulking along the corner where the ceramic tiled wall meets the wall just with drywall. Now, remember that I certainly do not profess to be … [Read more...]
