Bosch PB180 Compact Radio Review

Recently we were asked if we wanted to receive (free) a new 18V outdoors construction site radio from Bosch, the PB180 Compact Radio; we were intrigued so we said yes. They also sent along (again, free) the Bosch BC660 Lithium-ion battery and charger.

We were surprised … pleasantly surprised.

This construction site or outdoors radio is small; by my measurements it is 12 inched long, 5 1/4 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches deep which makes for easy portability.

It comes with the Bosch Provantage 3 year tool protection plan.

Per the specifications on the box, this compact radio:

  • can store in the L-Boxx Click & Go System for tools,
  • includes High Performance Neodymium Speakers for maximum sound clarity and quality,
  • is AC/DC compatable

It can be powered by either the same Bosch Lithium-ion battery pack which is used for Bosch poser tools (sold separately) or the power supply plug (included).

How long will the  Bosch Lithium-ion batter last? Again, per the product packaging, it will last up to two work days of runtime on one battery. that is a long time which is very, very cool.

There are various settings at the top including Power On/Off, searching for and saving your favorite radio station, volume controls, a mute button for when the boss is trying to talk with you, and more.

Yes, it has an adjustable clock display as well as fuel guage for remaining battery life when in use. icon smile Bosch PB180 Compact Radio Review

Its sound is huge; especially when I adjusted the delivered Bass and Treble settings just a bit for each. I had the volume set at 4 (out of a maximum of 20) and the sound was truly huge; I can only imagine how loud this portable BoschPB180  compact radio it can get on a noisy construction site.

This is a radio; not a CD player. It can be used to play FM or AM radio which is most prevent at construction sites amongst the dust and dirt which is characteristic of such an indoor or outdoor environment.

My only suggestion is that this portable radio targeted for construction sites (but usable for so many other outdoor purposes) would be almost perfect one was able to directly connect one’s smart phone (e.g. an iPhone) or iPod to play Pandora or one’s own play list.

We plan to bring it along on family picnics….it is that easy to carry and that good looking with the handles on either side of this Bosch compact radio.

This compact radio has a flexible antenna to flip up if it benefits the signal strength of the radio station.

So, what’s the bottom line of our Bosch PB180 Compact Radio review? Our Daily Home Reno Tips bottom line is:

  • it looks cool (even for testosterone charged construction sites);
  • has a huge sound (both volume wise and clarity wise);
  • is easily transportable between and within construction sites or to / from family picnics;
  • uses the same lithium-ion batteries that will likely be prevalent on a typical construction site be it a skyscraper  condo or residential single family home with (per the product packaging) long runtime between charges;
  • can also be plugged into any typical electrical outlet
  • needs to include connection for smart phone to be perfect
We like it; we like it a lot.
