Scotts EcoSense Weed B Gon for 2011

Now, this past weekend I was at the National Home Show with my good buddy Harvey (yes, the same one who has gone with me to South Bend and visit the University of Notre Dame the past two falls).

There were the usual exhibit and vendor booths including for garage floor refurbishment, garage doors, furniture, appliances and a good number of solar PV installation companies (due to the MicroFIT program in Ontario) like the SkyFire Energy Exhibit booth pictured below.

Then we came across the Scotts Canada both and what did we find but of course Weed B Gon.

If you live in the GTA and live in a home with a lawn, you likely remember late spring / early summer of last year when Scotts announce their new lawn care product for spot treatment of common weeds called EcoSense Weed B Gon.

So what?

Well, in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) there was a ban on the typical pesticides used to fight common lawn weeds such as Dandelions and a wide variety of broad and narrow leaf weeds. So, the past couple of summers there has been a proliferation of weeds on most lawns.

Then last May Scotts Canda came out with EcoSense Weed B Gon.

No, not the brand sold in the USA. This one could be sold and used on lawns in the GTA and Ontario. We wrote a few articles last summer about our own experiences with the new product, including this one showing the results a week after applying Scotts EcoSense Weed B Gon on weeds in our own lawn.

And what I noticed were a couple of changes in the packaging which I think you will really like; I do.

EcoSense Weed B Gon Containers Scotts EcoSense Weed B Gon for 2011

First, it is now available in a 5 Litre container, shown in the middle of the picture above which I took at the National Home Show last weekend. Last year, the first year on the market, there were some 4 Litre containers but they were really hard to find due to the product launch (likely due to needing to obtain the proper regulatory testing certifications, etc.) occurring during the heart of early summer lawn weed season.

So, one would think that the 5 Litre container would be priced as a lower price per ML than that for the 4 Litre to save us consumers money.

Second, the sprayer on the 5 Litre container was different.

The sprayer is shown in the picture above.

Two changes on the sprayer.

First, Terry of Scotts indicated it has a wider spray which may or may not be useful to you.

Second, and what I really liked, was that there is the mechanism at the bottom of the new sprayer which allows you to pull the liquid into the sprayer. Then you would depress the lever on the sprayer once to release the liquid which had been pulled up into the sprayer.

It is hard to explain (and I didn’t get a picture of this in action … I will later in the summer when I get my own 5L container icon smile Scotts EcoSense Weed B Gon for 2011 ). Yet, the bottom line is that using this new sprayer means your fingers will not cramp up (at least as much) if your lawn was like mine with a lot of the broad leaf weeds throughout.

So, two changes with Scotts EcoSense Weed B Gon for 2011, both related to packaging; the new larger 5L container which should result in a lower per unit cost for us consumers and the new accompanying sprayer with the 5L container to save your fingers and hand.
