Color Coordinating Floor Tiles

In the previous article within our floor tile home renovation project, we showed the solution to finishing the entrance from the sunken living room to the newly tiled front hall.

With most of the tile installation tasks completed, I wanted to show you what our new front foyer and adjoining room looks like with our new over-sized floor tile.

Now, here are two before pictures showing the front hall with the 23 year old original floor tile first from the entrance to the house and second from the kitchen.

Yes, the old beige small floor tile does not coordinate at all with the black front door with the large glass inserts. And now, here the is after picture.

OK, OK, I jest. icon wink Color Coordinating Floor Tiles The above is the after picture but it is after the floor tile installation contractors had finished and left. The next day, I took about 90 minutes on my hands and needs and numerous buckets of warm clean water plus a sponge to clean off the excess grout.

Now here are the true after pictures of our newly renovated front hall floor with our over-sized porcelain floor tile.

I was told by the installation professionals that one should leave the new tile covered with the excess grout until the next day and clean it with warm water once. Then I was to leave it and not clean it again for a week.

Apparently, and I did not know this, the more you wash newly grouted floor tile the more that the dye within the grout will come to the surface of the grout and be removed.

Yes, even if you only use warm water.

Yes, we want to keep the dark grey color of the grout in tact so we followed the advice of the pro’s.

So, how do you think our new front hall way and adjoining laundry room look with the new tile?

 Color Coordinating Floor Tiles

I like how we no longer have to step down into the laundry room.

I do like the 24 inch by 24 inch floor tile modern look. I think it gives more openness and less clutter to the rooms.

And notice that the dark charcoal grey floor tile coordinates with the black color of our front entrance door.

Notice as well in the above picture that the triple rows of glass border around the one smaller floor tile provides symmetry with the large glass inserts in the same front entrance door.

And, lastly, what do you think about the color coordination between the Jatoba Espresso color of the hardwood in the adjoining kitchen?

So, are we done with our floor tile home renovation project?

Nope. There are two very important steps which remains. And that is where we pick things up next.

What a difference that made! I really like large tiles on the floor because as you mentioned it just gives the room a bit of space because the intersecting lines of smaller tiles are busy and distract your eyes. Also thanks for the grout cleaning/preserving tip.
