Back in the spring we wrote a lengthy series of articles on our efforts to replace the carpet, yes I said carpet, in our physically challenged daughter’s bathroom with floor tile.
There was a lot of preparation needed to the sub-floor. This was not because of the nature of the floor tile we were using.
Rather, it was because the under-floor needed a lot of work.
As well there was existing tile underneath the toilet as well as a single row of tile on the floor by the back and the side of the bathtub.
And, the the custom tiled bathtub skirt had to be removed and a new one replaced.
Additionally, there was the flooring around the toilet to deal with.
Oh, and don’t forget the tip used to raise part of the carpet in the adjacent bedroom to the level of the newly laid floor tile.
So, many of our experiences and techniques used in our bathroom floor tiling project had nothing to do with the type of floor tile.
Yes, we did use SnapStone porcelain floor tiles. It is a great product. It was very easy to install, especially not needing any adhesive or mortar base on the sub-floor or any spacers between the tiles to keep them symmetrically aligned as you can see in the work-in-progress picture below.
So we thought with fall approaching and one’s thoughts start to gravitate to both the upcoming football season as well as interior home renovation projects, and as is our practice here at DailyHomeRenoTips.com, you would appreciate a listing of all the articles in our bathroom floor tiling project series. This will allow you to choose to either start at the beginning (which is what I recommend) or dive right into an article focusing on a particular technique of interest to you.
How did it look once it was all finished? Take a look for yourself:
Yes, this is a home renovation project which can be done by most homeowners themselves.
We encourage you to leave comments in the articles on tips, tricks and techniques you use for similar or different sub-floor or tile installation which you think would be useful to others.
