Last year I wrote extensively about my first ever trip to South Bend, Indiana to visit the campus of the University of Notre Dame and to also attend a football game of the Fighting Irish.
So this year Harvey (who went with me last year for a guy’s road trip) and I had already planned to attend the weekend of the football game vs Stanford Cardinals and had our hotel reservations made.
We just needed tickets.
Not knowing anyone affiliated with the University or any alumnists (except for David from whom we were able to acquire last year’s initial pair of tickets), my approach was the same as last year. I posted a notice of our need for a pair of tickets for the Stanford game on NDNation.com, one of the if not the most popular web site for Notre Dame fans. And then I crossed my fingers and waited.
So, imagine my surprise when I received an email from Notre Dame indicating that they were having a public ticket sale because the ticket demand for many of their home games was less than in prior years (various reasons). So, I went ahead on the scheduled date and accessed the ticket web site and was able to secure a pair of tickets for us!
Now, to be fair, these tickets are in the end zone about 5 rows from the top. Still, it gets us in the gate.
A few days ago the tickets arrived. It was pretty cool to see an envelope in our postal box from the University of Notre Dame.
Here is a picture of last year’s pair of tickets we obtained for the Fighting Irish home football game vs Boston College Eagles game from Dave, a kind Notre Dame alumnist we met virtually through the NDNation web site:
Compared to last year’s tickets this year’s tickets for the Fighting Irish home football game vs the Stanford Cardinals as shown below have a much softer background.
The envelope from the University also included a small pamphlet and some marketing material.
So, we have the hotel reservations (at the same hotel as last year but this time only for 4 nights and not for a full week) and we have the tickets.
And, this time we are going a month sooner. Last year it was the last week of October with the brilliance of the leaves on the trees changing colour.
This year we are going the last week of September. It should be warmer and hopefully does not rain on game day as it did last year.
Yes, lots of pictures and game day videos will be taken so stay tuned.
