Yesterday I wrote how yes, the PowerCost Monitor did help me to remember to think about the amount of electricity being consumed and to at least think about taking actions if I noticed wasted electricity being consumed in our home.
Maximizing the energy savings achieved in the home is not a one time or two time activity; rather, it is an ongoing effort if you are to not waste money from higher than necessary electric utility bills.
I also wrote how our kitchen was to room where everyone spent at least some time on many occasions during the day.
And, I also write how I thought that leaving the display unit in one place all the time was not the best strategy to have it noticed by the home’s residents on a frequent basis.
Well, then, where to place the PowerCost Monitor’s display unit for maximum consistent visibility?
After placing it on our kitchen island, I thought that the next best place was off to the side by the toaster.
My thinking was that usually at least once per day, possibly more, we used the toaster for meals (toast with breakfast, toast with soup for lunch or dinner, toast with fried egg sandwiches).
However, I didn’t look at it any more than when it was on the island.
What about next to the coffee maker? You can see the unit to the left of our coffee maker in the picture below.
The problem there was that sure we had coffee every morning; however, are we really sufficiently awake when make and pour the coffee into our coffee mugs first thing in the morning? No. So, the PowerCost Monitor’s display unit was likely to be missed more often than in other locations in the kitchen.
What about near the stove? You can see the unit to the left of the stove in the picture below:
Well, because we need our space when we cook, we couldn’t put it right next to the stove but well off the the side as you can see in the above picture. So, it was sooo far off to the side that, again, it was not really noticed.
The other aspect was who was really looking at the device? Well, one daughter is away at university and wasn’t home most of the time. Therefore it didn’t matter where we put it as she was not home to see it.
Our other daughter is a special needs adult whereby her challenges do not allow her to comprehend what she would be looking at when she sees the display unit.
As for my wife, Cath, well she really is not as interested as I have become in saving energy.
So, for our family that leaves yours truly.
Each family is different and you need to determine who the true users are for the device and then determine where those target users will be the most likely to view the electricity usage measuring device the most frequently.
As i was the primary person in this regard, I thought to myself where would I be most likely to view the unit the most frequently?
The answer may surprise you.
