University of Notre Dame and South Bend Highlights

Yesterday I wrote about, with pictures and videos, our Fighting Irish Game Day experiences.

Today I thought I would wrap up this series of articles by selecting the highlights of our trip.

Asking what were my highlights of my week long trip to the campus of the University of Notre Dame and South Bend / Mishawaka is like asking a parent which is their favorite child.

However, here we go in no particular order.

The people. It is true what they say, that everyone who you meet and talk with on campus is so genuinely nice, whether it was John S., the volunteer at the DeBartolo Performing Arts center, or Perry and Barbara (pictured below) who we met in the Legends of Notre Dame lounge, or the couple we met inside the Knights of Columbus center on campus sharing the game day steak sandwiches.

Even the students were genuinely nice to us and to each other; there were more hugs given and received between the students themselves, between the students and the mature folks like me or between the mature folks than I had seen in one place in quite some time.

Yes, both the Grotto and the Basilica were special spiritual places indeed. Below is a video of the Grotto.

Here are some of the pictures we took of the Basilica.

The Notre Dame Sports Heritage Hall on the second floor of the Joyce Center is an absolute must for any college athletics fan.  Yes, all of the Heisman Trophies are on display, per the picture below.

Here is a video clip of only a portion of the Hall which I took.

Another highlight was of course Notre Dame Stadium with all of its history. The outside was just as much of a highlight as the inside. Here is another collection of photos we took.

The campus itself was spectacular with the architecture of the buildings, the maintenance of the grounds, the trees, etc.

Its taken me 51 years to go to South Bend and visit the campus of the University of Notre Dame. I hope I don’t have to wait for another 51 years.
