Last year we wrote about the internal toilet leak we had with our less than one year old American Standard one-piece Champion low-flow toilet.Well, it happened again recently, only different.
This time we noticed, faintly at first, a hissing sound starting to occur when ever the toilet was not being flushed. Gradually, it grew more in intensity.
Upon investigation we saw that water was continuing to come out of the while refill tube from the valve (on the left) into the overflow pipe (in the middle) as shown below.

So I called up American Standard and this time they asked me to perform a test by turning the water off leading to the toilet and seeing how much, if any, water had gone from the tank over a six to 8 hour period.
You can see the water shut off leading to the toilet in the lower left of the picture below.
When I did this and told them that the water level in the tank was about 1 inch less than when the test was started, they sent me the new components, both a replacement valve (lower box) and a replacement stopper (upper box), as shown below.
It was a couple of weeks until I had (or, more accurately found) the time to replace the defective parts in our toilet. That is where we pick it up next time, which you can access simply by selecting this link to Part 2.
