We Have Fighting Irish Tickets - Almost

July 9th, 2009 · No Comments

Back in January I wrote a personal article on how accommodations had just fell into my lap in South Bend, Indiana which allowed me to start to plan for the trip of a lifetime, namely my first ever trip to watch my beloved Fightin’ Irish play football in person.

I have not written too much about this since then because, well, it is the off season for college football.

I had no idea about being able to secure tickets; reasonably priced accommodations are just as hard to come by, and since I had secured them I was sure something would happen whereby I would be able to see the game inside Notre Dame stadium.

I can’t afford scalper prices, especially with the promise this season has in store for the team.

Earlier this week the Alumni ticket lottery results were announced and I posted on one of the more popular ND fan forums my need.

Earlier today ‘David’, an alumnist offered the pair he was to receive in the alumni lottery to me at face value.

They are about 6 rows from the top seats in the end zone part of expanded stadium, which I commonly refer to as the nose-bleed country. :)

However, even with a capacity slightly more than 80,000 people it is still a relatively small stadium.

And, I am told that they are in the end opposite Touchdown Jesus, so we would see not only the game but also one of the most famous landmarks in America at the same time!

Bird in the hand vs 2 in the bush? Do I pass up this generous offer in the hopes of a better location?

My wife (a non-football fan) says to grab them so at least I can experience the, well, experience. And that is what this trip of a life time is all about.

So, no I don’t have the tickets yet; they are actually mailed to the lottery winners in mid-August. David said he would mail them to me soon after.

And, yes, I will publish a picture showing both tickets when we receive them.

The trip of a life time continues. The excitement is building for me.

I am sure I will have that Ned Beatty moment when I go inside the stadium and see the field for the first time. What moment is that? Just watch the Rudy movie; you will know that moment of which I speak.

GO IRISH!
