I thought I would take a time out from our various series of articles to show you the arrival of our Don Quichotte tulips.
Mostly pictures in this article today. In the first one below we see them just starting out in the early spring.

Next, they are getting quite tall.

I quite like the colour of this variety of tulip as we can see fully for the first time in the picture below. As well, they are sufficiently large not to be hidden by the growth of the two Sedum Autumn Fire perennials in the front of the West side of our front garden.

I also really like how they are not all the same height. If you look carefully you will see there are many, many Don Quichotte tulips about half way down from the flowers on the higher plants, making for a nice splash of color.

The flowering part of the tulips themselves are arguably on the small side. However, with so many planted together they are quite nice in appearance and do not become lost amongst the other inhabitants of our front garden as you can see in the picture below with, if you look closely, some coming attractions!

In future springs we expect this, and all of the other, collection of tulips to provide more and more flowers as they produce new offspring. No muss, no fuss … and of importance to me, no maintenance.

nice, I just bought a bunch this year and wanted to see how they will look like and I am impressed, the flowers do not look that small, and they are tall too. They are supposed to be the most perrenial of the triumph tulip ( their class)

Hi Dan,
Yes, they came out very, very nice. I’m curious to see next spring if they increase in the number of flowers since I left the bulbs in the ground all summer long.
Cheers,
Dan
