During the week between Christmas and New Years, we are providing pages listing all articles within a single home renovation or energy conservation project we have undertaken.
Today, we provide that page for our eves trough or gutter replacement project.
Why the need? Well we had not one but two ice dams last winter in our gutters causing water leakage in our dining room and basement ceiling. This was caused by a combination of poor initial gutter planning and poor bay window design causing it to extend out beyond where it should have.

As well, we were convinced that we needed at least one additional down spout in an area separate from the ice dams. We had signficant water over flows on the eves trough at the front of our garage causing significant and constant ice to form on the driveway in the winter. Yes, that is a lot of water streaming over the gutter in the picture below.

We knew that we needed an additional down spout to take the excess water away.

It’s not every day that a home owner needs to deal with these issues or even take measures to replace the gutters. So, we thought we would write about our experiences in case it helps others.
Below you will find, in order, direct links to each of the articles in this series. Start at the beginning to fully understand the context and our issues. Or, jump right into the middle. The choice is yours.
