Solar Air Heating – Part 19 – Installation Completed

In Part 18 we continued our efforts to reduce our energy consumption by way of installing a solar air collector to provide supplemental heat to our basement.

Today we simply complete the installation of the ceiling duct work that will take the heated air from the solar air heating unit to either the basement bedroom or basement recreation room or both, depending on our need.

So, last time we had just completed the installation of the Y-duct into the duct vent and vent cover within the basement bedroom ceiling tile.

If you recall, in order to direct the heated air flow from the solar air heater to either the ceiling vent in the basement bedroom or the basement recreation room or both we were simply going to use the Y-duct to direct the heated air to both ceiling vents; then we would leave both vent covers open, or close one or the other depending on where we wanted to heated air to flow.

With this done, we simply finished the connection of the flexible duct line to all of the vent ducts. First, we connected the insulated duct line to the circular vent protruding out from the Solar Max 240.

Then, we connected the flexible duct to the Y-Duct in the bedroom, followed by connecting the other flexible duct from the recreation room to the other part of the Y-Duct in the bedroom.

And lastly, we took the excess duct insulation and placed it around the leading part of the flexible duct line that was attached to the vent opening by the stairs.

With this now done, and all of the ceiling tiles put back in place the installation of the Solar Max 240 is now complete.

When we return to our series on solar air heating, we look at how the unit is working to provide supplemental heating for us. For now, I will simply leave you with one number: 140 … yes…. that’s right ….. as in 140 degrees fahrenheit.
