In Part 1 we identified that we had in internal leak in our less than 1 year old low-flow 6 Litre American Standard Champion toilet.
From our investigation it was caused by the seal on the gasket which stops the water from leaving the tank. Once in a while it might have some debris preventing it from completely sealing. However, we checked and no such luck.
Now, the nice things about toilets from American Standard is that they have a 10 year warranty. Other manufacturers might as well, I don’t know. I only know about the ones we installed in our home.
So, I called up the customer service phone number that was of all placed on the underside of the toilet’s tank cover. Very nice! yes, it was also on their web site.
When I explained my situation to the customer support person she did not give me any grief. She did not ask for a receipt or a serial number off of the toilet.
She was actually very helpful. She said that she would send us a replacement part. She also said that it was different from the one we had in the toilet, which tells me that we had not been the first ones to complain or experience this situation.
How different was it? Well, here is a picture of the original part from inside the toilet tank before we removed it.
Now, the customer support woman from American Standard said the replacement flush tower would arrive at my house in 2 days. And it did! Very nice.
As well, the customer support woman from American Standard also said the replacement effort would be easy. All I had to do would be to unscrew 4 screws to remove the current version and do the reverse to install the new one.
Well, not quite.
