We have written before about our ever growing list of energy conservation tips, now over 100, for the home owner.
Many are from our own experiences while others we have learned from other sources.
Recently we came across an energy conservation contest from Homedepot.com that sounds intriguing.
Home Depot is having this contest to promote home energy conservation. You can make your home home video on really any type of home energy issue such as insulation, water conservation, etc. and on solutions to common home energy issues such as heating / air conditioning bills, mold, and so on.
Generally your home video should focus on how you are reducing your home’s energy consumption and thus saving money and at the same time helping the environment.
Generally there are three prizes available:
- First prize is a $5,000 Home Depot gift card to be used on energy efficient products and up to @2,000 in insulation or radiant barrier insulation for your home
- Second prize is a $1,500 Home Depot gift card again to be used on energy efficient products
- Third price is a $500 Home Depot gift card to be used on energy efficient products.
This contest started back in late September 2008 and is open to . The last day for submissions of your home energy conservation related home video is November 9, 2008.
Many more details (including all the legal stuff like residency, age, etc.) can be found on Home Depot’s new-ish YouTube area.
And, if you look below the contest promotion at the above site, scroll down below and you will see numerous videos created by Home Depot on a variety of home renovation and repair topics.
It’s like they’ve taken the Saturday morning in-store seminars onto short videos. That way you can watch the home improvement videos any day and time you want.
Which if you think about it only makes sense. You can shop on the Internet any day and time (just see all the possibilities we like on our Home Store page … including Home Depot) so why not be able to access home renovation related tips any day and time as well. Nicely done Home Depot.
Still discussing Home Depot, they have started to create a series of podcasts, 10 to date, on various energy conservation tips for home owners. I have listed to one or two and they are pretty good; short, to the point, relevant and in every day language.
The one on how ceiling fans are useful for both cooling your home in the summer and warming in the winter was relevant for us as we do not have a ceiling fan in our home but are considering it.
