Basement Ceiling Leak – Part 22 – Tile Color Coordination

In Part 21 we saw the approach used by Bennett to repair the gaps between the shower floor tile and the shower taps from our initial home renovation / remodeling activities.

Today, I’d like to write about colour / color coordination between the shower tiles and the shower’s color / colour theme.

So, here is a picture of the shower stall after the initial remodeling effort. Sure, our en suite shower has a brown color / colour theme. Notice that the shower floor tile matches closely to complement the wall tile. Also notice how busy the floor tile looks compared to the over-sized wall tile.

Now, here is a picture of the en suite shower stall after the repair to the shower floor. Notice two things that are different about the new / replacement shower floor tile.

First, we went with, as mentioned previously, the 4 inch square tile. Having a 4 inch square grate on the floor drain matched the 4 inch floor tile very nicely. As well, having the larger floor tiles visually was a nicer complement to the 4 foot by 2 foot over-sized wall tile we think.

Second, going with a darker shade of brown was a nice contrast to the light brown wall tile. As well, it was a nice complement to the dark brown stained wood used on the double sink vanity / cabinetry over to the right.

So, in choosing tile color / colour you have a choice to make regarding the colour: complementary to the wall tile and contrasting to the vanity (our initial choice) or contrasting to the wall tile and complementary to the vanity (our second choice).

Which do you prefer?

Next time, the shower caddy.

We are renovating our 1950′s bathroom and stumbled across your photos. We love your combination of tile – can you let us know where you got it and what the colors were? Thanks!

    Hi Kelly,

Thanks for the comment. I am away from home currently, but am returning later in the week. I’ll take a look to see if I can find the receipts from local tile store for the product codes. We did purchase the wall tile a year before we had to purchase the dark brown floor tile used when we had to remove and replace the defective initial shower floor.

    Hi Kelly,
    Thanks for your patience.

    I found the receipt.

The tile on the wall of the shower stall is Atrium Nogal (12 X 24) while the dark brown tile on the shower floor is Rea Brown 4 X 4.

    I hope that helps!

Thank you! We will look for it or at least something similar!
