In Part 8 we saw how simply using the hand-held circular saw was not overly efficient. There was just way too much gosh darn poured concrete underneath the floor tile.
Enter Mr. Hammer; Jack Hammer
The next day, Bennett returned with a small jack hammer. The was the Rotary Hammer Drill by Superior Power Tools. It was a 120V - 60Hx 1100W hand held power drill.
Notice the drill bit attached to the power drill, how it comes to a point. Bennett borrowed this from a colleague and that is the bit that was attached to the hand tool. So, off Bennett goes, using the Hammer Drill, starting at the area near the floor drain.
OK, 2 and 1/2 hours later Bennett had broken up about two fifths of the concrete shower floor.
The tool is quite loud when in use, sufficient for Bennett to use ear plugs. And, while not as loud as a full size jack hammer you see outside used by construction crews, it is sufficiently loud that it can be hear throughout the house when in use.
So, by this time it was just before 11 am and as I was working from my home office I needed to conduct several meetings. This meant that Bennett was done hammering for the day. Here was the result.
Remember I mentioned that there was around 5 inches of poured concrete immediately beneath the shower floor tile? Well, here is the best picture I could come up with showing this.
Next time, the remaining shower concrete floor is removed.
