In this article we focus on the performance of the solution to the ice dams being created along the dining room wall and in particular the solution for both the gutters sitting on top of the dining room’s bay window and the fireplace exterior brick.
Here are the two before pictures to remind you of the situation. First the dining room’s bay window protruding all the way out beyond the soffit and fascia to under part of the gutter.

Second, the absence of any eavestrough on top of the fireplace exterior brick wall and of a downspout to the left of the fireplace exterior wall.

So, the rain starts hard and heavy. What is the result of the new eavestrough?
Well, no leaks in the dining room’s bay window. Not that there ever was during the summer; the leaks were in the winter with the ice dams. But it’s good that at least in the summer there is not. Coincidentally our neighbour did have a leak in their bay window from this same rain storm.

Now, here is the water leaving the second additional downspout added to the eavestrough. The water is making it’s way away from the house, following the natural slop of the ground towards the back garden.

Next is the extended downspout along the retaining wall of the side garden in the front of the house. If you look closely you may be able to see the water leaving which will follow the natural slop of the ground away from the house foundation.
All in all, we are very pleased with Ronald, his crew and the work he did for us with our replacement eavestrough and his solutions to fix our issues. We highly recommend him to you if you are in the GTA. Send us an email and we will give you his phone number.
