Let’s get right to it. What is wrong with this picture?

I mean besides it being the replacement front door that itself will be replaced with another door because the installation was so poorly done.
Don’t see the issue? Where is the ventilation into the house? Where is the screen door in front of the front entrance door so if we want to let cool air into the house from the front all we have to do is open the main door without letting the insects and bugs into the house?
Well, there isn’t any. Why would we want to hide our beautiful front door with a traditional screen door?
And, have you seen a screen door that is all screen, with no glass? I have to say that all of the screen doors I have seen have at least the top or bottom or both halves made out of glass. This means that at most only 1/2 of the screen door will actually let air into / out of the house for ventilation.
When we finally have installed our final replacement door I want to be able to open it to allow fresh air in the house with a full screen that will not hide the appearance of the front door when it is closed.

Here are the French Doors to the back deck from the kitchen eating area. What’s wrong with this picture (other than the frame not being painted :-) )? Yes, same issue. Where is the screen so if we want to get that cross ventilation going from the front to the back of the house (or vice versa)? Yes, I will not install a screen door that will only allow 1/2 ventilation because half of it is glass. And, I will not install a screen door that hides the nice French Doors.
But, we both (Cath and I) want that cross ventilation in the house; I want it so the need for the air conditioner is less and Cath wants it for fresh air to circulate much better than it currently does.
So, what is the solution to our needs? How about a retractable screen door? That is where we continue next in this new series of articles about our new retractable screens.
