Today’s tip is one of my pet peeves of contractors; more particularly, electricians. Der heutige Tipp ist eine meiner pet peeves von Auftragnehmern; insbesondere, Elektriker.

Label the gosh darn on-off switches that are in the main electrical panel, will ya! Beschriften Sie die gosh darn An-Aus-Schalter, die sich im Haupt-Elektro-Panel, wird ya!

There is nothing more frustrating when one needs to turn the power off for a certain electrical outlet / light switch. Es gibt nichts mehr frustrierend, wenn man braucht, um das Gerät für eine bestimmte Steckdose / Lichtschalter. You know what is going to happen, right? Sie wissen, was passieren wird, richtig?

The light switch you need to turn off the power will be the one that is the furthest away from the electrical panel. Die Lichtschalter müssen Sie das Gerät abschalten wird einerseits das ist die am weitesten weg von der Leiterplatte. And, of course there is no label on any of the on-off switches which lead you to even guess which one of them provide the power for the area of the house containing the light switch. Why are the on-off switches in the electrical panel never labeled? Warum sind die An-Aus-Schalter auf der Leiterplatte nie beschriftet?

Are electricians lazy? Elektriker sind faul? Well, to be honest, there is something to that, IMO. Nun, um ehrlich zu sein, gibt es etwas zu, IMO. There are building codes and electrical codes and laws of physics which electricians need to adhere. Es gibt Bauvorschriften und Elektro-Codes und Gesetze der Physik der Elektriker einhalten müssen. But, none of those codes indicates that the wiring or rewiring job is not finished until the switch box is properly and accurately labeled. Aber keiner dieser Codes deutet darauf hin, dass die Verkabelung oder rewiring Angebot ist nicht beendet, bis der Schalter aktiviert ist und ordnungsgemäß beschriftet sein. Or, do they? Oder sie tun?

So, today’s waste of 1/2 an hour with a dozen trips up and down the stairs from one end of the house on the main floor to the electrical panel room at the opposite end of the house in the basement was not enjoyable. Also, die heutige Verschwendung von 1 / 2 Stunde mit einem Dutzend Fahrten nach oben und unten die Treppe von einem Ende des Hauses über die wichtigsten Stock auf der Leiterplatte Platz am anderen Ende des Hauses im Keller war nicht erfreulich. Of course, not all contractors, electricians and the like are plain lazy and do just enough to get paid and then leave.  I am sure any electrical contractor you would use would never do that. Natürlich sind nicht alle Vertragspartner, Elektriker und dergleichen sind einfach faul und genau genug, um dafür auch noch bezahlt und dann verlassen. Ich bin sicher, dass alle elektrischen Auftragnehmer würden Sie niemals tun. I will always be your neighbour who encounters this situation, right? Ich werde immer deinen Nächsten, Begegnungen dieser Situation, nicht wahr? :-)

And, if you are the home owner, for gosh sakes, when you actually do find the on-off switch on the electrical panel that is the one you want, label it yourself! Und, wenn Sie zu Hause sind die Eigentümer, für Donnerwetter willen, wenn Sie tatsächlich finden sie die On-Off-Schalter auf der Leiterplatte ist, dass die gewünschte, Label it yourself! No, you will not remember the next time you need to find it again. Nein, Sie werden sich nicht daran erinnern, das nächste Mal müssen Sie es erneut.
