A short tip today (don’t worry….tomorrow starts a rather lengthy series of articles on the replacement of our front exterior door).
Today in the mail we finally received our $150 rebate from the Ontario Provincial government for our Energy Efficiency Evaluation (i.e. energy audit) under the Federal Government’s ecoENERGY Retrofit program.
Yes, the rebate is real.
Some waited, as reported by various media outlets in December 2007 for almost 10 months before receiving their rebate cheque due to privacy issues with personal information sharing between the Federal and Ontario Provincial Governments.
For us, we only had to wait a few months after receiving our Energy Efficiency Evaluation Report, so all in all very reasonable.
So, for those in Ontario (and many, not all) of the remaining provinces in Canada, I can now attest that the Provincial participation to financially motivate home owners to participate in the ecoENERGY Retrofit program is real.
I still feel, as Monday’s DHRT (Daily Home Renovation Tips) article described, that the energy efficiency assessment should be no charge at all if the Federal and Provincial Governments are serious in reducing energy consumption by home owners. However, this $150 rebate does help.
What are you waiting for? What is your excuse for not participating in the ecoENERGY Retrofit program?

Hi Brian,
As long as the furnace and heaet pump were amongst the recommendations for your specific house per the energy efficiency assessment report, you should be OK….as long as you have the followup or E assessment completed wtihin 18 months from the date of the ‘D’ energy effeciency assessment report.
If you want to, you can always check with the accredited firm who performed the D assessment.
Dan
PS. Of course, now with the discontinuation of the ecoENERGY Residential Retrofit program, Brian you have to have your E assessment completed by the sooner of 18 months from the date of your D assessment or 31-MAR-2010, which ever comes first. Check the ecoENERGY web site for more details. Dan
