Home Purchase & Renovation Financing - Part 2

February 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Yesterday in Part 1 we introduced Karen D. who is a professional banker with RBC at it’s Harwood & Westney branch in Ajax, Ontario.

We reviewed the financing she was able to provide us in terms of owning two houses at the same time while also incurring renovation costs on the ‘new’ house.

The day before the closing of the new house, however, is when Karen really shined. We received a phone call from our lawyer that they did not have the correct paper work on the details of the financing in order for us to close the next day.

And, of course, those who have been frequent visitors to Daily Home Renovation Tips and shared our renovation experiences with us through our articles know that if something can go wrong with our renovation activities, it will. Well, of course Karen was not at work that day we received the phone call from our lawyer. She was on vacation.

She had actually told that she was going to be on vacation on the day of the closing, but we couldn’t find the phone number of who she said we could call in case there were any issues.

What occurred was truly outstanding and ‘above and beyond’. We contacted Karen, apologized for contacting her during her vacation and explained the situation. Karen spring into action that only a professional banker who has the interest of her clients at heart can and would do. She called back in less than an hour and indicated that the paper work issue was no longer an issue. It had been corrected. Our lawyer was now in receipt of the correct paper work. What did she do and who did she call? Quite frankly, I don’t really know or care to know. All I wanted is for our lawyer to be satisfied and for our house closing to go according to plan.

We called our lawyer who indeed confirmed that they now had the correct paper work.

No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. But it takes a true professional to go above and beyond what is reasonably expected. Would you take time out on your vacation to help a client? Would you even take their phone call?

Thanks, Karen.
