Wireless Ceiling Light Wall Switch - Part 1

February 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

We have posted articles about our laundry room previously. Here’s another series of articles related to the laundry room, but it could be any room in the house.

The laundry room is situated with the door to the garage at one end and the door to the main hall at the other. There is a ceiling light. The switch to turn the ceiling light on and off is at the door to the main hall. There is no wall switch for the ceiling light by the door to the garage:

door to garage without switch

The result is a laundry room in total darkness if one arrives home after the sun has gone down and enters the house through the door from the garage to the laundry room until we go over to the door to the main hall and use the wall switch to turn on the ceiling light.

Or, if one is leaving the house after the sun has gone down for the night or before it rises in the morning, before you leave the laundry room for the garage you have to remember to go back to the door to the main hall and use it’s wall switch to turn off the light, then go back to the door to the garage.

Even worse, what if you used a walker or a wheelchair? How inconvenient would that be for you?

Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a wall switch by both the door to the garage as well as by the door to the laundry room.

No problem you say? Well, I really don’t feel like breaking and repair drywall on the ceiling to run a line from the ceiling light as well as break and repair drywall to continue that line down the wall next to the door to the garage in order to install a wall switch for the ceiling light.

Well, we came across a product new to us that solves our dilemma. It is called the Anywhere Switch that is part of the a product line from Leviton Manufacturing of Canada. We will talk about this product and especially our installation experiences (yes, that’s right….multiple installation attempts) in our next two posts in this series of articles.
