The first area of the home which we would like to address in this new category concerns finishing the installation of the door frames for the French Doors between the living and dining rooms.
Previously, this was simply an open space between the two rooms with no doors. However, currently I find myself working at home a significant amount of time. In order to have privacy to concentrate on the work for my employer and to not distract others in the house we decided to narrow the width of the opening between the living room (which doubles as my home office) and the dining room in order to install new French Doors.
Previous posts on these new doors have dealt with painting the door. This post turns to a different aspect, the finishing of the newly installed door frames.
Now, we agreed with the contractor that we would be responsible for painting of the doors once they were installed. So, who is responsible for the finishing and the cost of the labour involved with the finishing of the door installation? You need to remember to be clear about this with your contractor, otherwise you will be left with the responsibility.
So, what are examples of an unfinished door frame installation? How about the pictures below. First is an example were there is space between the horizontal and vertical door frames and door jams which needs to be finished, or filled-in.
Next is a picture of finishing nails which can still be seen in the door jam which need to be covered as well as drill holes in the door and door frame directly above the golden door hinge that also need to be filled in (how many of your door frames do you see these holes in your own house?).
And, finally, here is an example of a finishing nail which not only has not been sunk beneath the door jam, but it protrudes beyond the door jam waiting for an unsuspecting person to walk by and snag their short or sweater.
So, what are the tools that we are going to use to finish the installation of the new door frame prior to re-painting? Tune into part 2 in this series and see.
