OK, you have found the interior doors that you want to buy as part of your home renovation. You go up to the desk in the big box store and discuss them with the dude specializing in doors. You then place your order, pointing out the stuly of door you want amongst the 20 different, side-by-side, ample doors. You check the order receipt for the right quantity and door sizes. You go pay for them at the check out counter.
After several delays, two months later the doors arrive and you say “This was not the style we ordered”. This time you check the order receipt (which, yes, surprisingly you’ve kept) and it says Style = Cheyenne. You then check out the manufactures web site and sure enough, the picture of the Cheyenne style matches the doors that were delivered to you, ugh!
Just because the dude / dudette has an apron on and stands behind a desk does not mean that they actually care about your order. Just like in financial management, the only person who really cares about you is……well, you.
If we, at the time we were at the order desk had actually checked the order receipt for the style name, we would have caught the mistake by the dude with the apron. We didn’t. Therefore, we didn’t have a leg to stand on and had to accept the doors……………….all 12 of them!
Don’t let this happen to you…..always pretend you are an auditor and check every detail of your order.
Post Script: All actually ended well. The style of the doors we actually ordered and received turned out to match the style of our new kitchen cabinets and actually look better in our home than the style we intended to order, so it all worked out well for us in the end.
